How IV Therapy Can Improve Athletic Recovery

How IV Therapy Can Improve Athletic Recovery

Recovery is not passive. For athletes and physically active adults, it is the period when the body rebuilds damaged muscle fibers, restores depleted nutrients, clears metabolic waste, and prepares for the next performance demand. When recovery falls short, performance stalls, injury risk goes up, and the body spends more time patching itself up than getting stronger. As a leading EBo2 therapy clinic, we have seen how effective EBo2 therapy can support athletes through this rebuilding phase, helping the body bounce back more fully between training sessions.

IV drip therapy works on the nutritional and physiological side of recovery directly, delivering nutrients to the bloodstream at concentrations that oral supplements simply cannot reach. At EBo2 Therapy and Wellness in Rancho Palos Verdes, we offer physician-guided IV therapy for athletes at every level, from seasoned competitors to active adults keeping up with heavy training schedules.

Why Standard Recovery Methods Fall Short for Serious Athletes

Sleep, hydration, and nutrition form the foundation of athletic recovery, and they matter. But for athletes training at high intensity or high frequency, these foundations often cannot keep up with the physical demands being placed on the body. Post-workout inflammation accumulates faster than the body can clear it. Nutrient depletion outpaces what food and oral supplements can replace in a reasonable timeframe.

Oral supplementation also has an absorption ceiling. Depending on the nutrient and individual gut function, 20 to 50 percent of what you take orally is actually absorbed and put to use. For an athlete trying to replenish B vitamins, antioxidants, and amino acid precursors in the 24 to 48 hours after intense training, that absorption gap is a meaningful limitation.

IV drip therapy bypasses the digestive system entirely. Nutrients enter the bloodstream directly, absorption is near-complete, and the body has access to therapeutic concentrations within minutes of the infusion beginning.

How IV Drip Therapy Works for Athletic Recovery

Every IV session at our clinic begins with a lactated ringers and Myers Cocktail base, which includes Vitamin C, B12, B-Complex, Magnesium, Zinc, and Glutathione. This is a stronger nutritional foundation than the plain saline base used at most IV clinics. Additional nutrients are layered in based on the selected package and provider recommendation.

A physician’s order is required before any IV session begins. Before your first appointment, our team reviews your health history, training demands, and recovery goals to determine which formulation is most appropriate. Sessions take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the package and volume. During that time, you are seated comfortably in our IV Wellness Lounge in a Phantom full-body massage chair, which supports circulation and muscular comfort while the infusion runs. Trained staff are present and monitoring throughout every session.

Our Sport Recovery IV Package

Our Sport Recovery package is built specifically for post-training recovery and physical performance support. It includes Cyanocobalamin (B12), B6, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Glutathione, DMSO, and EDTA.

Cyanocobalamin supports red blood cell production and neurological function, both of which are critical for sustained athletic output and coordination. B6 plays a role in amino acid metabolism and neurotransmitter production. Ascorbic Acid at intravenous concentrations supports collagen synthesis, reduces exercise-induced oxidative damage, and shortens inflammatory response time. Glutathione is one of the body’s primary antioxidants and is directly depleted by intense physical activity. DMSO supports tissue penetration and has been studied for anti-inflammatory properties. EDTA assists in binding and clearing compounds that accumulate with long-term physical stress and environmental exposure.

This is not a generic hydration drip. Each ingredient targets a specific physiological function that relates directly to what happens in the body during and after intensive training.

Additional IV Formulations for Performance and Recovery Support

Depending on your training phase and specific recovery needs, other packages in our menu may be appropriate alongside the Sport Recovery formulation. Your provider will help determine the right fit based on your health assessment.

The Glutathione package delivers a high-dose Glutathione infusion in 500 milliliters of balanced electrolyte fluid. For athletes who train heavily and want dedicated antioxidant replenishment, this is a focused option worth discussing with your provider. The Hydration Refresh package provides a rehydrating electrolyte-balanced fluid base for athletes whose primary post-training need is fluid and electrolyte restoration. The Wellness Infusion includes Vitamin C, D3, B-Complex, Zinc, Folic Acid, B12, Selenium, Glutathione, Inositol, and B6, providing broad nutritional coverage for athletes in periods of high training volume.

When EBOO Therapy Fits Into an Athletic Recovery Plan

EBOO therapy takes systemic recovery work deeper than IV drip therapy alone. During a session, 2 to 3 liters of blood are processed through a medical-grade filtration system, infused with 150,000 micrograms of medical-grade ozone, and passed through UV irradiation and exclusive LED disinfection before being returned to the body. The active treatment phase runs approximately 50 minutes.

For athletes, EBOO is relevant for what it removes from the bloodstream that IV therapy does not target directly. Inflammatory proteins, metabolic waste, and pathogens that contribute to chronic low-level inflammation are cleared during the filtration stage. The ozone infusion then increases the blood’s oxygen-carrying capacity, which supports faster cellular repair and energy production. Athletes dealing with persistent inflammation, slow recovery despite adequate nutrition and sleep, or recurring injury patterns may find that EBOO addresses the underlying physiological burden that standard recovery protocols have not reached.

Many patients at our clinic use IV drip therapy and EBOO together, scheduling IV sessions between EBOO appointments to maintain consistent nutritional support throughout a training cycle. Clinics like HyperCharge Health and EBOO Medical have documented similar combined protocols among performance-focused patients. We serve South Bay athletes who want that same standard of physician-guided care without leaving the area.
