Boynton Beach is a city of around 80,000 in southern Palm Beach County, founded in 1898 by Major Nathan Boynton and incorporated in 1920. The city covers about sixteen square miles between the Atlantic Ocean, the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge, and the southern reach of Lake Worth Lagoon.
Daily life is split between the inland commercial corridors along Boynton Beach Boulevard and Congress Avenue, the redeveloping downtown Town Square district, and the ocean side at the Boynton Inlet — site of the city's small public beach park and one of the most active fishing inlets on the southeast Florida coast. The Arthur R. Marshall Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge sits immediately west of the city.
Boynton Beach is served by the School District of Palm Beach County. The city has been steadily redeveloping its downtown and waterfront while expanding inland west of I-95, and it remains one of the more affordable coastal cities in the southern county.
