West Carson is an unincorporated community of Los Angeles County, sandwiched between the cities of Torrance, Carson, and the LA neighborhoods of Harbor Gateway and Lomita. It covers roughly 2.5 square miles in and around ZIP code 90502 and the western edge of 90710.
The community is best known as the home of Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, one of the busiest public hospitals in the United States and a major teaching facility of the David Geffen School of Medicine. Around it cluster medical office buildings, the Los Angeles Biomedical Research Institute, and a series of mid-century residential streets.
Beyond the medical campus, West Carson is residential — single-family homes on grid blocks along Carson Street, 213th Street, and Vermont Avenue — with small commercial corridors along Pacific Coast Highway. The community has long-standing Latino, Filipino, and Black resident populations and a strong sense of distinct identity from its incorporated neighbors.
