Walteria is one of Torrance's older neighborhoods, named for Walter J. Tuckerman, a Torrance landowner from the early 20th century. It occupies the southern stretch of Torrance below Pacific Coast Highway and above the bluffs that rise into the Hollywood Riviera. The community is centered around Walteria Park, Walteria Lake (a small fenced reservoir), and Walteria Elementary School.
The neighborhood's residential streets are quiet and largely single-family, with a mix of 1950s ranch homes and remodeled additions. Local shops cluster along PCH and on the side streets near Newton; restaurants, hardware stores, and a few small markets serve daily needs without anyone needing to drive to Del Amo.
Walteria's geography puts it within walking distance of South High, easy biking distance of Riviera Village, and a short drive of both Torrance Beach and Rancho Palos Verdes. The 90505 ZIP code overlaps Walteria, Pacific Colony, and Madrona — but locals tend to use the neighborhood name first.
